Layers of graphitised carbon cloth impregnated with phenolic resin are subjected to repeated carbonisations, impregnations and chemical vapour infiltrations. The material is designed to have controlled friction properties and has excellent compression strength and wear properties. It has low density and good chemical resistance to around 350ºC.

Diameters of up to 130mm can be produced.

Typical applications are carbon-carbon friction discs for aerospace.
